If you have Crohn’s disease, you know all too well how it affects your body. But while the Crohn’s diet is very individual, there are some foods that are generally pretty easy on the digestive system and still pack a nutritional punch. Combine that with regular colonics, yoga or other alternative therapies, and you have a recipe for good health.

Here are some foods that may help with Crohn’s:

  • Almond milk: If you have Crohn’s, lactose isn’t your friend. Almond milk solves that problem. Some almond milk contains as much calcium as regular milk. It also has vitamin D and E and contains no saturated fat or cholesterol.
  • Salmon: We like organically-raised or fresh-caught salmon the best. But most of the calories you’ll receive from any kind of salmon are from protein. And it’s packed with omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Avocado: Organic avocados are packed with good fats, vitamins and potassium. They are also soft, smooth and easy to digest.
  • Eggs: Any way you cook them, eggs are packed with protein and easy on the digestive tract. They are also relatively inexpensive, which is why we recommend going with the slightly more expensive organic variety.
  • Nut butter: Almond butter and other smooth butters are an extremely good source of protein, vitamins and good fat. And if you get the smooth kind, it’ll be much easier for your body to digest.

Here are some therapies that may help with Crohn’s:

  • Colon hydrotherapy: A lot of diseases are caused by a build of toxins the digestive tract. By cleansing the colon, you cleanse the body and give it a chance to start fresh.
  • Yoga: Yoga has a wide range of benefits, and it may help ease inflammation within the body.
  • Lymphatic massage: Increasing the flow of lymph within the body can help stimulate natural healing, which is idea for autoimmune disorders.
  • Meditation: The mind is extremely powerful. Calming the mind via meditation may help with symptoms.

Alzheimer’s disease is at epidemic levels. It’s the most common cause of dementia among people who are 65 and older. Unfortunately, there’s no cure. But there are things you can do – like colonics – to help prevent the disease.

Make it a challenge

Stimulating your mind on a daily basis is one of the most important activities you can do for prevention. Think about learning a new language or learning to play an instrument. Experts say that building new connections in the brain can help with onset.

Work up a sweat

Exercise is, of course, great for your body. It helps with overall health and wellness. But it also helps trigger a positive change in certain proteins in the body that researchers think have to do with the onset of Alzheimer’s. Do at least 30 minutes a day.

Eat well

We always stress the importance of eating well on this blog. But we’re going to do it again. Raw organic foods can really change the overall health and wellness of your body. For Alzheimer’s, a balanced diet rich in folate, omega-3 fats and vitamin B12 can really help with prevention. Eating a lot of blueberries, which are rich in antioxidants, can protect the nervous system.

Colonic irrigation and chelation

Colon hydrotherapy can clear toxins, making it possible for the body to heal itself. But chelation heavy metal detox therapy can clear metals out of your body – specifically aluminum and mercury – which have been associated with the onset of the disease.

Moxibustion isn’t a new practice. In fact, it’s pretty old. The practice evolved thousands of years ago in China. It is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that utilizes moxa – mugwort herb – to promote natural healing within the body. Combine that with colon hydrotherapy, and you’ve got quite a recipe for overall wellness.

How is it done?

Experienced practitioners use moxa to warm acupuncture points on the body. Moxa consists of dried leaves from mugwort or wormwood that’s formed into a cigar-like shape.

Practitioners then use direct or indirect moxibustion. Direct involves burning moxa onto the acupuncture point – the moxa cone is directly on the skin. But direct isn’t often used in the U.S.

Indirect involves burning the moxa above the skin or on the top of an acupuncture needle.

This stimulates circulation and promotes blood flow. It also restores the balance and flow of energy throughout the body known as ch’i. The body naturally begins to heal itself due to improved overall blood flow, balance and wellness.

Do you need moxibustion?

History has shown that this practice can be used to help with a variety of medical issues, including helping fetuses in breech return to position. It has also been used to help asthma and ulcerative colitis.

But the practice can also be used to treat a variety of other ailments:

  • Cold feet
  • Cold hands
  • Low sex drive
  • Infertility
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Digestive disorders
  • Watery stool
  • Reduced peristalsis

For those with digestive disorders and other ailments, we offer colonic irrigation plus moxibustion. This enables the body to restore and stimulate immediate healing.

Bowel preparation for a colonoscopy can be tedious. You’re forced to drink all kinds of different fluids to cleanse your colon, which can leave you feeling pretty bloated and uneasy. Blood pressure can drop and, worst of all, you have to make sprints for the bathroom. Fortunately, there is another option.

Colon hydrotherapy is often used as an alternative to other colonoscopy preparation. It can even be used as a method of cleansing before bowel surgery.

Why colonic irrigation is a good alternative

A colonic can perform the same function that other bowel prep therapies do, but it can do it without all of the discomfort. Most importantly, it’s better at cleansing the colon. In fact, a lot of doctors recommend colonic irrigation as preparation for certain medical procedures. Cleansing through this method can not only prep you for your procedure, it can get rid of toxins and bad intestinal bacteria that may cause disease. Instead of feeling bloated and heavy, like you would with other prep methods, you’ll get a boost of energy.

The cleanse

At our Santa Monica colonic clinics, we use a flow of warm, sterilized and filtered water to cleanse the colon. It is gently instilled to provide you with comfort during the procedure. You’ll be fully covered during the session, and massage and acupressure points are utilized to release more waste.

The cleanse activities your body’s natural peristalsis, which another reason it’s great for colonoscopy preparation.

It’s a common story. You get a sinus infection and decide to go to the doctor. They prescribe an antibiotic and a few days later you start feeling better. But the truth is that antibiotics do very little for sinusitis other than disturb the natural balance in your body.

A recent study for Washington University discovered that people who received an antibiotic for a sinus infection didn’t have milder symptoms – or a reduction in symptoms – any more than those taking a placebo. In fact, there was no real difference at all between those that received an antibiotic and those who received a placebo.

Sinusitis generally goes away within about 10 days regardless of whether it’s a bacterial or viral infection. But there are plenty of ways to treat your infection without the use of drugs.

Alternative healing

We recommend a number of alternative treatments for our patients with sinus problems. First, of course, we recommend a colonic, which can clear toxins and bad bacteria from the body. Colon hydrotherapy gets the body ready for healing. Lymphatic massage is also vital to the function of the immune system, which helps stimulate the movement of lymph throughout the body.

Here are a few other suggestions:

  • Use a neti pot: neti pots are ideal for irrigating your sinuses with clean, distilled water. For ever more cleansing power, add in a small amount of saline solution – add one tablespoon of sea salt to distilled water.
  • Take a steam bath: steam can really open up the sinuses. Take a hot bath and breathe in eucalyptus to open up your nasal passages.
  • Eat the right food: spicy foods can really unclog your sinuses. Try organic food like horseradish or wasabi.
  • Drink green tea: green tea has plenty of immune boosting properties. Drink hot green tea throughout the day to stimulate the immune system and to moisten your mucous membranes.

Prevent a sinus infection

The best defense is a good offense. With just a few healthy lifestyle choices, you can prevent an infection in your sinuses:

  • Eat right: a diet based around organic food can really boost the health of your body. Check out our organic food diet guide for more information.
  • Sleep right: proper sleep is vital for the immune function of the body. Without sleep, you’re body doesn’t have the right tools for proper healing.
  • Exercise right: exercise not only boosts the immune system, it stimulates connections within the body and mind.

Along with eating, sleeping and exercising right, we recommend colon hydrotherapy and lymphatic massage on a regular basis. Both will keep your body ready to fight an infection.

Transformational Health Colon Hydrotherapy

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), and no one knows the cause either. But it’s estimated that up to 4 million people could suffer from the illness in the U.S. alone. For those that have the condition, it can be extremely debilitating.

Because traditional treatments for the illness generally only treat the symptoms, many are turning to alternative therapies. Some of our patients with CFS are surprised to learn that colonic irrigation can help with CFS. For our clients with CFS, we recommend an individualized program consisting of colon hydrotherapy, lymphatic massage and other alternative therapies available at our Los Angeles colonic clinics.

Colonics for CFS

Why is colonic irrigation an ideal treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? In order to answer that, we’ll need to take a short dive into the potential causes of CFS. It’s theorized that those with CFS may suffer from a vitamin deficiency. They may also have a problem with their immune system and hormonal imbalances. And some researchers believe that the disorder could stem from a viral infection gone awry in the body.

Colonics cleanses toxins and bad bacteria from the entire colon, giving the body the opportunity to heal itself, absorb nutrients and improve immune system function. If toxins are allowed to remain within the body, there is no way for the immune system to fight invaders.

It also gives the body an opportunity to reset itself, adjusting hormone levels and stimulating the natural peristalsis of the body.

We also recommend yoga, tai chi and massage (including lymphatic massage) for a reduction of CFS symptoms.

Natural remedies

In addition to colonics and other alternative therapies, we believe that overall wellness in body and mind can help with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Stress, while good in some cases, can also have a detrimental effect on the body.  Allow yourself some time to meditate each day and let go of any stress that you’re holding on to.

You should also take care to improve your sleeping, eating and exercise habits, all of which are vital to your overall wellbeing.

Use our organic diet guide as a reference for daily sustenance.

Transformational Health Colon Hydrotherapy

Last week we talked about preparing for your colon hydrotherapy session. This week we’ll talk about how to maintain optimal health after your colonic irrigation.

What to expect

Colonics are used to rid the body of toxins and poisons by gently distilling warm water throughout the colon. As a result of cleansing your colon, you’ll most likely feel more vibrant and healthier overall. You may also feel lighter, have a boost of energy and have a heightened sense of wellness and inner peace.

After your session, it’s not uncommon for a bowel movement to be delayed for up to three days. Your stomach may also be a little uneasy with certain foods for a few days after your session.

Eating after a colonic

If your stomach is a little sensitive after your colon hydrotherapy Santa Monica session – which is common – then you may want to limit certain foods. Eat lightly for a few days after the session to slowly reintroduce foods to your stomach. Soups, vegetables and fruits filled with nutrients and enzymes – like avocados and steamed vegetables – are ideal.

It’s also important to hydrate by drinking plenty of water. Juices, herbal teas and liquids with an abundance of electrolytes – like coconut water – are all recommended for use after your colonic irrigation as well.

Consult our organic diet guide for a list of foods that are packed with nutrition.

Additional alternative healing methods

Along with the Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists, we often recommend additional healing methods to compliment colonics. Lymphatic massage uses a gentle, rhythmic touch to stimulate the lymph and liquify congestion to clear additional toxins. And deep breathing can calm the body and mind for enhanced healing.

Ongoing colon hydrotherapy

Generally colonic irrigation should be an ongoing process until the amount of impacted waste released is reduced. Our certified colon hydrotherapists can determine the amount of sessions you’ll need after the first session, which depends on the health of your colon.

Transformational Health Colon Hydrotherapy

Unlike a vaccine, not everyone has experienced colonic irrigation. It’s only natural to be thinking about what to expect on your first visit — many of our first-time patients initially have some concerns. We are often asked what it will feel like and whether or not there will be any negative side effects.

What to expect when receiving a colonic

Before receiving colonic irrigation, we’ll first ask questions about your medical history. This will allow us to create a personalized detox program specific to your body. We’ll then ask you to change into a gown and lie face down on a treatment bed. A certified colon hydrotherapist will then gently insert a disposable speculum, connected to a hose, into the anus. This instrument will release warm, distilled water throughout the colon, which pushes fecal matter out of the body through the hose. The goal of the treatment is to cleanse the colon of hardened, toxic fecal matter to promote healing and overall wellness.

Patients sometimes feel a bit of discomfort in the abdomen during the procedure, but extreme pain is not common. Following proper colon hydrotherapy preparation can help your comfort level during the procedure.

Steps to take before your colonic irrigation

Many different colon hydrotherapy preparation procedures are often recommended, but perhaps the most important one of all is a healthy diet. Eating leafy green vegetables and whole grains will help loosen fecal matter before your colon hydrotherapy session. Consuming raw fruits and vegetables also aids in detoxification, due to their high amount of enzymes. Brushing the skin with a hard bristle brush, 2-3 times a week, can also stimulate the circulatory system and rid the body of toxins. Consult our organic diet guide for a list of healthy foods to eat.

Transformational Health Colon Hydrotherapy

There’s a lot of evidence for an optimistic outlook having a strong positive influence on an individual’s health. The more optimistic a person, the better their health seems to be. Doctors often excuse this notion, but it can play a vital role in the healing process. Alternative medicines – such as colon hydrotherapy and lymphatic massage – can also have a major positive influence on the healing process.

At our colonic Los Angeles spas, we put an emphasis on positive thinking and alternative medicine in order to heal body, mind and spirit. Here’s how to start healing your body in three steps:

Stop its cause

In order to stop the cause of the disease, you’ll first need to rearrange your thoughts and feelings about it. Initially, the dying of the body begins with feelings of hate, anger, condemnation, judgment, jealousy and depression, as well as other negative emotions. In order to be in good health, it’s important to control your emotions and target good thoughts. Focus on building love, happiness, peace and gratitude to create energy and vitality.

Change your diet

Your colon plays a vital role in your health. Small changes in your diet can make a huge difference in the progression and healing of your disease. In order to heal, you must provide your body with the right tools. Stop eating items that lack nutrients, such as fried foods, saturated fats and other processed foods. Try gradually switching to an organic diet that includes lots of raw vegetables and fruits. Processed foods can cause fecal build up within the colon, which is often the cause disease.

Get rid of congestion

Use colon hydrotherapy, lymphatic massage and other methods to get rid of congestion within the colon and beat disease. Removing waste buildup from your body gets rid of toxins and other harmful bacteria that causes illness.

Transformational Health Colon Hydrotherapy

Many of our clients in the Los Angeles area ask us the difference between colon hydrotherapy and an enema. While both involve cleansing the colon by infusing water into the rectum, there are several key difference between the two.

What is an enema?

An enema is the process of introducing liquid – often warm sterile distilled water – into the rectum as a bowel stimulant. It mainly cleanses the lower part of the colon and is a one-time infusion of water. Enemas can be used to relieve constipation and impacted fecal matter, but its main function is as a bowel stimulant.

What is a colonic?

Colonics is a natural process of cleansing the colon. It uses warm, soothing water that is filtered and gently instilled into the colon via the rectum. Unlike an enema, colon hydrotherapy cleanses the entire colon and activates the natural peristalsis of the body. Water and waste is moved out of the body through a waste tube, moving toxins out while hydrating the body.

The key differences

  • Colon hydrotherapy cleanses the entire length of the colon, whereas enemas only cleanse the lower part.
  • During colonics, waste and toxins leave the body through a tube. You’re covered and do not smell or see the fecal matter. An enema involves a single infusion – waste is passed afterward in the toilet.
  • Colon hydrotherapy involves multiple sessions, whereas an enema is a single infusion.
  • Cleansing the colon with a colonic must be done by a trained colon hydrotherapist. Enemas can be performed at home – there are several disposable kits available.

Overall, a colonic is more effective at cleansing the entire colon, hydrating the body and activating natural methods of cleansing within the body.
